It can be a little challenging (and messy) to find art projects appropriate for young children still working on their motor skills. However, encouraging hands during messy experiments is a great and fun way to help improve these skills. This hands (and feet)-on painting project is perfect for doing just that!
What you will need:
- Poster board
- Finger paints
- Scotch tape or painters tape (I like using clear tape so the ending is a surprise!)
*I usually do this project outside, weather permitting, so we can get as messy as we want and clean up by jumping in the pool or with a hose! To get the most of this project inside make sure the kids aren’t wearing anything that you don’t mind getting a little paint on (some paints CLAIM they are washable but sometimes leave a little bit of stain) or if they have smocks, even better!
Directions:
1. Spell out each child’s name on the poster board with scotch tape.
2. Paint all over the poster board with your fingers and feet (make sure you have a firm grasp on your child’s hand because the paint can become slippery (you can keep it on the table top too and not get the feet involved for safety reasons or to control the mess).
3. Hang the poster boards to dry.
4. Once dry, peel the tape off and the name should appear the color of the poster board.
5. You can frame or decoupage the finished pieces to hang up in the playroom or bedroom!
